  • Bernard McKenna, BA BEd MPhil PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in Communication at the University of Queensland Business School where he teaches in undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programs. He is also an active researcher with about 100 publications, including three books, international journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. His diverse research areas include technical, political and managerialist discourse; corporate communication with communities; and wisdom and knowledge management in the new economy. He is on the international advisory board of the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication and Critical Discourse Studies. He applies and refines his vast theoretical knowledge by collaborating with industry and government in Australian Research Council grant projects and extensive consultancies.

    Glen Thomas is a Lecturer in the Creative Writing and Cultural Studies Discipline within the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology.

    Thomas holds Honours, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Queensland and, in 1994, was awarded that university¿s Walter and Eliza Hall Travelling Scholarship. While on that scholarship, Thomas conducted research at Harvard University (Boston, Massachusetts) and Smith College (Northhampton, Massachusetts). Thomas¿s Masters thesis analysed the representation of women in post-colonial settler fiction and, in particular, the question of women and dual colonisation. His PhD thesis was an extended reading of four contemporary American historical novels.

    Thomas has written articles and book chapters that have appeared in Twentieth Century Literature, Kunapipi, Australian Literary Studies, Handbook of Communication Audits for Organisations, Australian Literature Today, and the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication.

    His current research focuses on romance fiction in Australia as a creative industry by examining the ways in which romance fiction is produced, read, and marketed as a consumer commodity. Thomas¿s other research interests include American literature, historical fiction, technical communication, theories of persuasion and influence, and Shakespearean comedy.

    Neal Waddell, B.A. M.Bus., lectures in Communication at the University of Queensland Business School. Prior to this, he had extensive experience as a radio announcer and manager before becoming a government media trainer and consultant. He is a Fellow of the European Institute for the Media and has research publications in sociolinguistics.

    Mary Barry B.A. (Class 1 Hons) is a tutor in writing at Queensland University of Technology. Originally trained as a teacher, she has lectured and tutored in Business Communication at the University of Queensland, and tutored in writing and literature at James Cook University of North Queensland. She is also a document analyst and writing consultant to industry.
