Mastering Chinese Language and Culture is a 20-volume series designed for overseas students who study the Chinese language as a heritage language. The course may be adapted for other intensive or immersion language programs that maximise the time students get to practice the Chinese language.

Volume 1-9 is a foundation Chinese course that introduces 1000 characters, the Chinese character writing system, pinyin and basic Chinese grammar through short reading passages, exercises, and hand drawn illustrations. Volume 10-20 extends the course to cover ten cultural topics including Chinese geography, history and philosophy.  These later volumes are packed with fascinating facts and information written in simple and easy-to-understand language. 

The 20-volume series is intended to be covered over 9 years of study but any one of the Volume 10-20 books may be studied independently or used to supplement other Chinese language courses.

Each textbook comes with 2 workbooks. Optional multimedia companion CD-ROMs (sold separately) are available for volumes 1-9. The CD-ROM uses a combination of audio, lively animation and interactive games to help students with pronunciation, character writing and retention of new vocabulary. Volumes 1-5 also includes flashcards.

History of China is suitable for students who have a good understanding of the Chinese language and culture. Written in simple and vivid language, this volume introduces the history of China from the second half segment of Tang Dynasty, the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdom Period, Song Dynasty, the Liao, Western Xia and Jin Dynasties, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. The supplementary reading passages describe personages, events, sites and places, buildings and constructions which are significant to the historical period discussed in each lesson. This volume will help students to understand history of China chronologically, while expanding their vocabulary as well as enhancing their language abilities and skills. An English translation and a chronology of the dynasties in Chinese history are provided for reference. History of China comes bundled with 2 workbooks.
