With the startofWWI, Japanese forces seizedGerman leased territories inChinaandoccupied the
German Pacific colonies. This collection comprises correspondence, studies and reports, cables,
maps,andotherkindsofdocumentsrelatedtoU.S.consularactivities.U.S.Consulateswere listening
postsreportingontheactivitiesoftheGermancolonialgovernmentsand laterthe Japanesemandate
authorities,andtheactivitiesofthenativepeoples. IncludedarematerialsonKiauchau (Kiautschou),
Solomon Islands,Marshall Islands,Caroline Islands,Pelew (Palau),Marianne Islands,Samoa,German
NewGuineaand theBismarckArchipelago.
Evangelism in Indiatookthe formprimarilyofvillage itinerationwheremaleand femalemissionaries
ministered to the spiritual needs of the populacewhile simultaneously attending to theirmedical
andeducational needs. Thecollectiondocuments theBoardofForeignMissions' tripartiteministry
(Farukhabad,Punjab,andtheWest Indianmissions) in Indiabutalsoreflectsthedevelopmentof the
modern Indianstate inabroadersense.Reactionto foreignersgenerallyandProtestantmissionaries
