Combine comprehensive coverage of basic electrical theory with practical "how to" information to prepare students for real practice with DELMAR'S STANDARD TEXTBOOK OF ELECTRICITY, 7E by Stephen Herman. This edition covers all aspects of basic theory with no assumption of prior electrical knowledge. The author also limits math to basic algebra and trigonometry with step-by-step examples. Quality schematics and illustrations guide students through basic electrical circuits; DC and AC theory; and equipment such as meters, transformers and motors. Numerous examples demonstrate how to complete common tasks electricians perform, while succinct units cover only one or two topics each to ensure clarity. In addition, new coverage of spike and surge protection and motor installation complies with the 2017 NEC. MindTap online resources are also available with interactive multimedia and options to customize and track and report progress.

He also taught at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, North Carolina, for nine years and helped pioneer an electrical curriculum for Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas. His additional publications include ELECTRIC MOTOR CONTROL, ELECTRICITY AND CONTROLS FOR HVAC/R, INDUSTRIAL MOTOR CONTROLS, UNDERSTANDING MOTOR CONTROLS, ELECTRONICS FOR ELECTRICIANS, ALTERNATING CURRENT FUNDAMENTALS, DIRECT CURRENT FUNDAMENTALS, ELECTRICAL STUDIES FOR TRADES, ELECTRICAL PRINCIPLES, EXPERIMENTS IN ELECTRICITY FOR USE WITH LAB VOLT EQUIPMENT, THE COMPLETE LABORATORY MANUAL FOR ELECTRICITY, and PRACTICAL PROBLEMS IN MATHEMATICS FOR ELECTRICIANS.

  • EXTENDED COVERAGE OF BATTERIES NOW DISCUSSES AGM BATTERIES. Students are introduces to batteries and become familiar with this newer type of sealed, non-spillable free valve regulated battery that uses "absorbable glass mats" or AGM separators between the plates.
  • UPDATED GRAPHICS CLARIFY CONCEPTS AND REFLECT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD. High quality schematics and large illustrations clearly depict basic electrical circuits, DC and AC theory, as well as electrical equipment at work in the field today. These timely graphics reinforce the concepts students are learning.
  • EXTENDED COVERAGE ADDRESSES HOW TO DETERMINE RESISTANCE OF CONDUCTORS AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES. Comprehensive coverage of this and other critical topics thoroughly prepares students for success in the field.
  • NEW UNIT ON MOTOR INSTALLATION REFLECTS THE LATEST 2017 NEC. This concise, yet complete, unit on motor installation reviews conductor selection, fuse or circuit breaker sizing and overload heater selection.
  • REVISED UNIT ON FILTERS NOW FOCUSES ON MORE PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS. Students examine useful insights concerning surge, spike and lightning protection that will be particularly helpful on the job.
  • ADDITIONAL COVERAGE OF THREE-PHASE TRANSFORMERS NOW INCLUDES DISCUSSION OF SIX-PHASE TRANSFORMER CONNECTIONS. This new coverage prepares students to work on certain applications when a six-phase supply is required and conversion is necessary.
  • HIGHLIGHTED SAFETY AND CAUTION MATERIAL STRESSES SAFE WORK PRACTICES. Based on his own extensive professional experience, the author highlights best practices and focuses special attention on safety issues and other critical aspects of working in the field.
  • HIGH-QUALITY, FULL-COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS AND PHOTOGRAPHS BRING ELECTRICAL THEORY AND APPLICATIONS TO LIFE. This edition's extensive selection of engaging and helpful illustrations, photographs and supporting graphics appeals to today's visual learners and help ensure student understanding.
  • THIS EDITION'S WELL ORGANIZED PRESENTATION IS CURRENT, COMPREHENSIVE AND EXTREMELY USER-FRIENDLY. Each chapter covers a different topic, making it easy to comprehend as well as simple to teach.
  • PRACTICAL "GREEN TIPS" DEMONSTRATE HOW TO APPLY GREEN CONCEPTS TO THE ELECTRICAL FIELD. These helpful tips and insights, integrated throughout the text, equip students to offer energy-efficient and "green" options as professionals.
  • MINDTAP INTERACTIVE ONLINE RESOURCES HELP YOU MAXIMIZE STUDENT SUCCESS. With the MindTap online course you can provide the entire graphically rich text, multimedia assets, online quizzes and flashcards to ensure student understanding. In addition, you have social media options, can customize content and use built-in tools to easily track and report progress.
  • THIS EDITION LIMITS MATH CONCEPTS TO BASIC ALGEBRA AND TRIGONOMETRY TO ENSURE UNDERSTANDING. All math concepts are logically organized and include step-by-step examples to ensure your students master the basics before moving to more advanced topics.
  • "WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW" ARTICLES HIGHLIGHT THE RELEVANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF THE MATERIAL STUDENTS ARE STUDYING. These interesting boxed articles at the beginning of each unit emphasize the importance of the book's critical topics and demonstrate how these principles are actually used in today's world.
  • THOROUGH COVERAGE INTRODUCES A VAST SPECTRUM OF ELECTRICAL TOPICS. Students study the wealth of electrical topics that are important for success today, including three-phase power, both single-phase and three-phase transformers as well as single-phase and three-phase motors.
