  • NEW EMPHASIS ON ETHICAL DECISIONS USES UNIQUE IDDR APPROACH. A revised chapter on ethics in business (Ch. 3) offers practical steps for applying ethical principles and reasoning to everyday business decisions. Current content minimizes the gap between theoretical ethical principles and applying principles in the working world. The authors have also developed a new framework -- the IDDR Approach with four logical steps: Inquiry, Discussion, Decision, and Review -- to guide students in making ethical business decisions.

  • NEW DETAILED SAMPLE SCENARIO GUIDES STUDENTS IN APPLYING IDDR FRAMEWORK. To help you present and demonstrate the IDDR Approach in action, this edition provides a detailed Sample Scenario that questions whether or not to include a celebrity photo in a company’s social media marketing campaign. Students must apply the IDDR Approach (Inquiry, Discussion, Decision, and Review steps) to arrive at a solution.

  • NEW LEARNING TOOLS HELP STUDENTS MASTER ETHICS AND THE IDDR APPROACH. The newly revised ethics in business chapter now features learning tools to reinforce the IDDR Approach and ethical concerns. A new exhibit, “An Analysis of Ethical Approaches to the Sample Dilemma,” assists in applying the IDDR Approach while a new Ethics Today feature, “Applying the IDDR Framework,” emphasizes strategies and perspectives of the new IDDR Approach. In addition, a new appendix, “Costco’s Code of Ethics,” demonstrates how company management guidelines direct employees in ethical standards and behavior.

  • NEW “A QUESTION OF ETHICS” IN EVERY CHAPTER CHALLENGES STUDENTS TO CONSIDER ETHICAL DILEMMAS. This entire edition reinforces the application of the IDDR Approach as students use its various steps to answer “A Question of Ethics” in each chapter after Chapter 3. To challenge students in analyzing the ethical angles in today’s business legal environment, updated “A Question of Ethics” problems feature cases as recent as 2017 and 2018. Suggested answers appear in the Answers Manual.

  • NEW HYPOTHETICAL BUSINESS LAW CHALLENGES OPEN EACH CHAPTER TO PIQUE READER INTEREST. Many of this edition's chapter introductions feature realistic example of business law issues facing today's managers, companies, and even industries. These scenarios -- often based on real cases or business situations -- provide a real-world connection that generates student interest and highlights special legal concepts that the chapter presents.

  • NEW TASK-BASED SIMULATIONS CONCLUDE EACH UNIT. Ten new Task-Based Simulations -- one at the end of each of this edition's units -- present an engaging, realistic business situation. The Simulations then ask readers a series of probing questions about how the law applies to various actions taken by the firm in the scenario. To answer the questions students must apply the laws discussed throughout the unit. Suggested answers appear in the Answers Manual.

  • “In the News” engages students in a brief research activity in which they search out and comment on recent developments in today’s legal environment. This activity, found within MindTap, engages students in active learning and application. This activity replaces the previous editions’ video activities to connect key concepts in the text with today’s business and life.

  • CRITICAL-THINKING FEATURES HELP ADDRESS AACSB CURRICULUM REQUIREMENT. Special Critical Thinking sections respond to the AACSB curriculum requirements to explore global, political, ethical, social, environmental, technological, and cultural contexts of business law. Located in select chapters, most of these features cover new, timely topics, practical to both everyday life and business. Many of the four critical-thinking features -- Digital Update, Ethics Today, Managerial Strategy, and Global Insight -- are updated or entirely new to this edition.

  • COMPREHENSIVE END-OF-CHAPTER FEATURES HELPS STUDENTS REVIEW AND APPLY CONCEPTS. At the conclusion of each chapter, varied and comprehensive review activities explore chapter concepts, relationships, and applications of business law. You can assign these exercises or use them as starting points for meaningful classroom discussions. Students are challenged to apply legal concepts and issues to everyday scenarios and real-life case problems.

  • "PRACTICE AND REVIEW" FEATURES HELP SOLIDIFY UNDERSTANDING OF EACH CHAPTER’S MATERIALS. The “Practice and Review” learning tool in each chapter presents a hypothetical, yet realistic, scenario and asks a series of questions that requires the reader to identify key issues and apply legal concepts.

  • "DEBATE THIS" FEATURE SPURS LIVELY CLASSROOM DISCUSSION. The "Debate This" feature follows each "Practice and Review" and offers a brief statement or intriguing question concerning the chapter material. You can use these "Debate This" topics to prompt meaningful classroom dialogue, to guide small group assignments, or even drive written assignments.

  • "TERMS AND CONCEPTS" ENSURE STUDENTS FULLY UNDERSTAND IMPORTANT LEGAL TERMS. This helpful list presents all of the chapter’s boldfaced key terms at a glance and provides the page number where each term can be found. In addition, a glossary at the end of this edition contains a newly revised set of clear definitions for each key term and concept.

  • "ISSUE SPOTTERS" FACILITATE STUDENT REVIEW AND RETENTION. These "Issue Spotters" features draw special attention to each chapter’s critical concepts or key points of law. Sample answers to these features are available in Appendix B to allow students to check their work as they progress.

  • "BUSINESS SCENARIOS" AND "CASE PROBLEMS” GUIDE STUDENTS IN PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF CONCEPTS. Hypothetical, yet realistic, “Business Scenarios” require students to identify relevant legal issues and apply them effectively within the scenario presented. In addition, "Case Problems" drawn from actual U.S. cases highlight legal concepts covered in the chapter and enable students to review the material while applying it. Special "Business Case Problem with Sample Answer" features in each chapter allow students to check their answers as they move forward.

  • SHORT-TERM GROUP ASSIGNMENTS ENCOURAGE COLLABORATION. These time-limited group assignments and activities encourage students to work together to resolve a specific business scenario’s legal issue or problem covered in the chapter. You can use these projects in class discussions or assign them for group projects.
