  • A list of Key Terms has been added to the end of each chapter to help with student review and assessment, and most essay-style review questions have been changed to multiple-choice for easier integration into the MindTap testing database.

  • Chapter 7 (Refrigeration System Troubleshooting) has been completely revised and simplified to better facilitate teaching and learning, making it easier for readers to master a comprehensive, step-by-step approach to identifying common refrigeration issues. In addition, the diagnostic flowchart now combines similar problems to allow for three new additions among the nine problems areas covered.

  • Chapter 9 (Retrofitting, Recovery, Evacuation, and Charging) includes numerous updates and additions to keep pace with evolving industry standards. For example, retrofitting of R12 and R502 is no longer covered, and R22 examples of commercial refrigeration have been replaced with R404A where possible. The chapter also covers high-glide refrigerants such as R448A extensively, especially as they relate to determining superheat, sub-cooling, evaporator and condensing temperature and control set points. An overview of highly flammable refrigerants such as propane (R290) is also included.

  • The author has updated chapter material throughout the Fourth Edition to reflect current industry trends, technology and best practices, bringing information up to date and making the new edition especially useful for today's technicians.

  • Written for technicians by a technician, this practical text includes numerous photos and drawings to help visual learners. Theoretical material is carefully connected to real-life examples HVACR technicians are likely to encounter in the field, and actual service scenarios are included as relevant examples whenever possible.

  • Abundant diagrams, photos and illustrations help readers understand and apply key concepts more confidently as they work through even complex technical processes.

  • The Fourth Edition includes access to valuable Instructor Resources, such as animated PowerPoint® presentations that coordinate with each chapter to streamline course planning and enhance the student experience.

  • Designed for your convenience, Instructor Resources include chapter quizzes, midterm exams, a final exam and a flexible test bank for constructing your own tests, complete with answers.

  • Recognized as the number one text on commercial refrigeration by instructors and field technicians alike, the Fourth Edition of this trusted guide is a practical resource that makes problem-solving easy in both workplace and classroom settings.

  • A conversational and engaging writing style makes it easier for readers to understand even complex refrigeration concepts and gain valuable insights into their practical applications.

  • "Rules of Thumb" features integrated within chapter content help readers diagnose common service problems and prepare for times when factory recommendations and specifications may not be readily available.

  • Helpful Troubleshooting: "Rules of Thumb" throughout the readings help technicians diagnose common service problems and prepare technicians for those times when factory recommendations and specifications are not readily available.
