  • CAREER CONNECTION. This new feature at the end of each chapter suggests ways for students to transfer skills from the classroom to the workplace. Each Career Connection ends with a journal entry that prompts students to design a specific behavior change for making this transfer.

  • CAREER RESOURCES. The text's new subtitle -- MAKING THE CAREER CONNECTION -- reflects its wealth of career planning tools.

  • REVISED TABLE OF CONTENTS. The information literacy chapter now immediately follows the reading chapter, helping students make a more direct connection between these two related sets of skills.

  • DISCOVERY AND INTENTION STATEMENTS. Throughout the text, journal entries now include discovery and intention statements that further reinforce the Master Student Process -- the continuous cycle of insight, planning and action.

  • INTENTION STATEMENTS. Numerous intention statements prompt students to plan habit changes based on the research of BJ Fogg, a behavior scientist at Stanford University and author of the bestselling TINY HABITS: THE SMALL CHANGES THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING.

  • STUDENT REFLECTION. Revised captions for images throughout the text include prompts for personal reflection and critical thinking.

  • INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES. Each chapter has been revised to align with instructional objectives for student success courses.

  • UP-TO-DATE AND INCLUSIVE. The entire text has been thoroughly revised to update facts, examples and references to technology -- and also to incorporate the bias-free and inclusive language recommendations in the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition.

  • ***NOTE: CAN THIS BE COMBINED WITH FEATURE 7???*** CAREER EMPHASIS. The new Career Connection feature replaces the Skills Snapshots in the 5th Edition.

  • Interactive elements throughout the text, including the popular Discovery Wheel, have been revised to reflect the above changes.

  • In summary, The Essential Guide to Becoming a Master Student 6e is a “one-stop shop” for college and career success. First-year students who want to flourish academically and gain career readiness can meet both goals with this text.
