  • Donald Davis

Don Davis earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education from Bowling Green State University and his Master of Science degree in mathematics from Ohio University. Don currently teaches at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio where he has served as mathematics department chairman, chairman of the college’s excellence in teaching committee, and is a recipient of the college’s Excellence in Teaching Award. In his spare time, Don enjoys the sport of race walking and considers himself an IndyCar and Formula One aficionado.

  • William Armstrong

Bill Armstrong earned his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Arts degrees in mathematics from The Ohio State University. Bill is currently a professor at Lakeland Community College. While at Lakeland, Bill has served as mathematics department chairman, served on numerous committees, started the successful Faculty Liaison Student-Athlete committee, and served as the first advisor for the Actively Caring for People student group. Bill has been a two-time recipient of Lakeland’s Excellence in Teaching Award. When not making videos for his classes or writing, Bill can be found spending time with his wife and beagle, playing pickleball, coaching youth football, or keeping up with Cleveland’s sports teams as well as Ohio State’s sports teams.

  • Mike McCraith

Mike McCraith earned his associate's degree at Lakeland Community College, having both Don Davis and Bill Armstrong as instructors. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Cleveland State University and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. After four years teaching at Joliet Junior College, he is currently a professor at Cuyahoga Community College. When not working on books, Mike thoroughly enjoys snuggling with his huskies, playing video games and studying all things Italian.

  • FLEXIBILITY FOR ANY CONTENT DELIVERY METHOD: Ideally suited for any content delivery method--traditional, online, hybrid/blended or flipped--PRESTATISTICS incorporates screencast videos for each objective, video solutions for some examples and screencast video solutions for many of the Quick Check Exercises immediately following examples.

  • VIDEOS: Nearly 900 videos are included in PRESTATISTICS including lecture videos, example video solutions, quick-check exercise video walkthroughs and WatchIts that enable your students to learn how they want to learn.

  • PROBLEM SOLVING METHOD: Since statistics is a word-problem-driven discipline, PRESTATISTICS prepares students for this by introducing a three-step problem-solving process: 1) Understand the Situation emphasizes identifying the method to use for a given word problem. 2) Perform the Mathematics uses acquired mathematical skills to find a numerical result. 3) Interpret the Result asks the student to write a concluding sentence that conveys the meaning of the numerical answer within the context of the example.

  • WHY WE LEARNED IT: Each section concludes with a brief paragraph highlighting why the material presented in the section is important to learn and showing the connection between the topics in the section and topics that will be seen in a college-level statistics course.

  • EXERCISE SETS: Each section concludes with an extensive set of application exercises and a robust, traditional set of exercises that reinforces the concepts set forth in the section.

  • USAGE OF REAL DATA: Statistics is a data-driven discipline and PRESTATISTICS prepares students for this as often as possible with many exercises and applications that use real data. All real-data examples and exercises are sourced to motivate and engage students and show them the relevance for the mathematics they are learning.
