To achieve the national goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020, China must make sure that her poor population and areas attain prosperity along with the rest of the country. However, at the end of 2012, there were still nearly 100 million Chinese people living in poverty. To solve this problem, Xi Jinping developed his theory on poverty alleviation, which has led the country to take a targeted approach to reducing poverty. Sangui Wang
Wang Sangui is a professor at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development, Renmin University of China, and the director of the university’s National Poverty Alleviation Research Institute. He is a recipient of the special government grant from the State Council, a distinguished expert included in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference’s talent pool for state affairs, a member of the expert advisory committee of the State Council’s Leading Group for Poverty Alleviation and Development, and a consultant to the International Poverty Reduction Center in China. His main research interests are rural poverty and development finance. He has led more than 80 research projects funded by various Chinese government agencies and international bodies. He has published 16 books on poverty issues and more than 160 academic papers in both Chinese and international journals.
